FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — James McDonald hit a two-run home run and Arizona State took advantage of three errors by New Mexico to beat the Lobos 4-3 on Friday in the NCAA Fullerton regional.

McDonald went deep with one out in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Michael Benjamin, who scored ahead of McDonald, had reached on an error by shortstop Jared Holley.

New Mexico entered the game as the NCAA leader in several offensive categories. The Lobos (37-21) outhit the Sun Devils by an 8-4 margin but couldn’t overcome their mistakes in the field.

A throwing error by pitcher Josh Walker contributed to an unearned run in the first inning, and an error by Holley in the third inning helped the Sun Devils add to their total.

Trevor Williams picked up the win for the Sun Devils (36-20-1) after going 7 2-3 innings, while Walker took the loss. It was Walker’s first loss of the season in 12 decisions.
