ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Magician rallied on the outside to win the $3 million Turf by a half-length, denying defending champion Little Mike a second straight Breeders’ Cup title.

Ridden by Ryan Moore, Magician ran 112 miles in 2:23.23 and paid $27, $11.80 and $7 at 12-1 odds. It was Moore’s second win Saturday at Santa Anita, having won the Filly & Mare Turf with Dank.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien earned his eighth career Cup victory.

Britain-bred The Fugue returned $4.40 and $3 as the 8-5 favorite. Argentine-bred Indy Point was another 114 lengths back in third and paid $5.40 to show.

Little Mike faded to seventh after leading during the race.
