EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State was without starting defensive tackle Tyler Hoover against Michigan.
Hoover was not cleared to play because of a calf injury Saturday for the 24th-ranked Spartans against the 23rd-ranked Wolverines. The ailment also led to him missing last week’s win at Illinois.
The sixth-year senior has 312 sacks in seven games this season. He was granted a sixth year of eligibility because he missed most of the 2011 season with broken ribs. Hoover has started 19 of 44 games in his college career that started in 2008.
