MIAMI (AP) — Carl Pelini is asking to be reinstated as Florida Atlantic’s football coach, saying the school forced him to sign a resignation letter last week and that he denied using illegal drugs.

FAU athletic director Patrick Chun says the school has “ample evidence” to support allegations made against Pelini and the school’s now-former defensive coordinator, who also resigned.

Pelini says he wants to be reinstated to continue building FAU’s program and to clear his name.

An FAU assistant coach that Pelini hired was one of two people who filed affadavits saying he used drugs. The assistant, Matt Edwards, says he saw Pelini use cocaine and marijuana.
