CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Gee McGhee scored 19 points to lead seven in the double figures as Chattanooga rolled over Covenant 119-56 on Friday night.

New head coach Will Wade had his first victory in hand early. Chattanooga scored the first 14 points before Colton McGriff’s 3-pointer got the Scots on the board with 14:54 left in the first half. The Mocs led 56-29 at halftime.

The Mocs have four starters back from last season, including their top returning leading scorer, Z. Mason, who scored 16 points. Freshman point guard Greg Pryor added 14 in his debut.

Nate Frierson scored 11 points to lead Covenant, which shot just 27.8 percent and had 34 turnovers, 19 off steals.

The teams combined for 67 free throws. The Mocs made 29 of 37, the Scots 22 of 30.

The game was the Mocs’ season opener but counted as an exhibition for the Division III Scots.
