YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Karrington Ward scored 17 points to lead Eastern Michigan to a 77-45 win over Division III Albion on Friday in the first men’s NCAA basketball game of the 2013-14 season.

Eastern Michigan shot 50.8 percent from the field and 7 of 15 from behind the arc. The Eagles defense held Albion to 25 percent shooting.

Fellow starters Ray Lee and Mike Talley added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Eastern Michigan. Da’Shonte Riley finished last season averaging two blocked shots per game and had seven in 25 minutes against Albion. Riley now has 103 blocks in two-plus seasons.

Albion was outscored 31-11 in the first half and finished the game making just 13 of 52 shots. The game was an exhibition game for Albion, but it was a regular-season contest for Eastern Michigan.
