Mexico beat the United States in a penalty-kick tiebreaker on Thursday, winning 2-1 in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championships in Jamaica.

The loss means the United States will not advance to the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Lauren Rood of Camas was the goalkeeper for the United States. After the teams played to a 1-1 draw, Mexico outscored the United States 4-2 on penalty kicks.

Mexico scored early in the match, and the United States equalized midway through the first half. The United States dominated play in the second half, but couldn’t score against the defensive-minded Mexicans.

Rood, a Camas High School sophomore, made two saves in the match.
