SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Deonte Burton’s three-point play with 6.6 seconds to play lifted Nevada to a 60-58 victory over Cal Poly Tuesday night.
Burton also stole the ball with two seconds to go and Nevada (1-1) ran out the clock as Cal Poly lost at home for the first time in 13 games.
Burton finished with a game-high 22 points for the Wolf Pack, sinking 9 of 19 field goals. Cole Huff added 14 points and Michael Perez 13 for Nevada.
Cal Poly (0-2) was led by Chris Eversley with 19 points. Kyle Odister added 11.
A layup by Maliik Love gave Cal Poly a 56-53 lead with 1:06 to play and another by Eversley made it 58-54 with 28 seconds to go.
Perez drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key to pull Nevada within one point with 17 seconds to play, setting the stage for Burton’s heroics at the end.
