A Washougal business is offering the opportunity to own a unique, hand-designed coffee cup while supporting a local school.

Michelle McKnight, owner of Michelle’s Coffee Corner, is auctioning off reusable cups designed by community members. All styles and ages are represented.

“I was wanting to do something fun and thought that taking cups and letting my customers draw, paint and color them was a good idea,” she said. “Then I decided to auction off some of the better ones and donate all proceeds to Excelsior High’s art program.”

McKnight chose Excelsior because she wanted to keep the beneficiary local.

“Now the cups are coming in from everywhere,” she said. “I’ve gone to other businesses and have seen people decorating cups.”

McKnight is featuring a selection of the cups on the Michelle’s Coffee Corner Facebook page. If someone sees a cup that they like, they can go into the business and place a bid, similar to a silent auction. Winners will be announced at the end of the month.

“I like that the proceeds will go toward something creative,” she said.

Michelle’s Coffee Corner is located at 1803 E St., Washougal. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
