AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Sergio Perez is done at McLaren.
The Mexican driver announced Wednesday he won’t race for McLaren in Formula One in 2014, ending weeks of speculation about his future with the team.
In a statement on his website, Perez said he considered it an honor to drive for McLaren this season and said he wants to race well in the last two events of the season: the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin this weekend and the Brazil Grand Prix on Nov. 24.
Perez was a rising star on the circuit when he signed with McLaren to replace former world champion Lewis Hamilton. But Perez hasn’t finished better than fifth in a disappointing season.
