NJIT edges Army 89-85

WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Damon Lynn scored 27 points as NJIT edged out Army down the stretch Friday night to win 89-85.

Lynn hit two free throws with 3:04 to play to give the Highlanders (1-2) an 81-80 lead, then hit four more free throws and a jumper to help keep the Black Knights at bay down the stretch.

Ky Howard had 13 points for NJIT and Terrence Smith added 11. Lynn also had three 3-pointers.

Army (1-2) led its home opener 50-46 at halftime, and the lead traded hands four times until Lynn broke the game open for NJIT. The Highlanders shot 56.8 percent from the field on 25-of-44 shooting and hit 31 of 43 free throws.

Kyle Wilson led the scoring for Army with 26 points, including four 3-pointers, and Josh Herbeck added 12 points. Army shot 45.8 percent from the field on 27-of-59 shooting and hit 18 of 24 free throws.
