CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — John Jordan hit a jumper with 4 seconds to play on Friday night to give Texas A&M-Corpus Christi a 72-71 win over IPFW.
Trailing 71-70, Jordan had missed a layup seconds earlier, but the Islanders (2-1) got the ball back on a turnover by Michael Kibiloski and, after a timeout, Jordan sent the jumper home.
The Islanders led 33-32 at the half and the teams played even in the second period. Each scored 16 free throws and, with 26-of-52 shooting from the field, the Islanders had a slight edge over IPFW’s 24-of-51 shooting.
The timing of turnovers — 11 for IPFW and 10 for the Islanders — proved the key difference.
Jordan led the Islanders with 28 points, Ali Hameed added 13 and Joy Williamson scored 12.
Joe Edwards led the Mastadons (1-2) with 19 points. Pierre Bland and Isaiah McCray each scored 14 and Steve Forbes added 12.
