Two events Tuesday will commemorate the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

Clark College’s Mature Learning program will hold an observance from 1 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. Tuesday in Foster Auditorium, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way. Although it is a one-day Mature Learning course, the session is open to the public.

It includes Civil War-era music by “Illinois” Doug Tracy; Elliott Trommald’s presentation about Abraham Lincoln; a discussion of the Civil War in the Northwest by Tracy Fortmann, superintendent of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site; and a recitation of the Gettysburg Address by 11 community members who will each offer one sentence (or sentence portion) of the 270-word speech. Parking is free in Red parking lots.

Fort Vancouver National Site will launch its new exhibit Tuesday, “A New Birth of Freedom: Vancouver Barracks During the Civil War.”

The exhibit is in the site’s visitors center, 1501 Evergreen Blvd., at the east end of Officers Row. The opening reception is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The exhibit includes artifacts on loan from Gettysburg National Military Park as well as items from the Fort Vancouver collection. The exhibit runs through March 30.
