Florida International beats Texas Southern 70-68

MIAMI (AP) — Tymell Murphy scored 22 points to lead Florida International to a 70-68 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday night.

Murphy was 10 of 14 from the field with 12 rebounds and two steals. Jerome Frink chipped in with 16 points and eight rebounds.

The Golden Panthers (4-2) were down by as many as 10 points in the first period before a 23-13 run to even the halftime score at 34-34. The two schools kept it tight in the second period with FIU holding a narrow lead and Texas Southern tying the score three times. Tied at 63 with 4:25 left to play, Frink snagged a defensive rebound on a missed free throw by the Tigers’ Aaric Murphy leading to a jumper by Dennis Marvin sparking a final 7-5 scoring run to finish the game.

Murray led the Tigers (2-2) with 22 points, 11 rebounds and two assists.
