Sacramento State rallies past Portland State 43-42

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Garret Safron passed for 554 yards and three second-half touchdowns and Sacramento State rallied from a 14 point deficit, beating Portland State 43-42 on Saturday.

Sacramento State (5-6, 4-3 Big Sky Conference) dominated the second half, scoring 5 touchdowns. Safron completed 68 percent of his passes and four TD throws for the game, including two in the final 7 minutes. He also ran for two touchdowns.

Portland State led the entire game until Safron threw a 4-yard TD pass to Cole Hikutini with 30 seconds left. The Vikings attempted a final drive to get into field goal range, but Osagie Odiase intercepted a Collin Ramirez pass to seal the win.

DJ Adams had a career high 249 yards rushing, scoring five touchdowns, while Ramirez passed for 272 yards as Portland State amassed a school record 713 total yards, but still could not hold on for the win.
