AMES, Iowa (AP) — Michigan star forward Mitch McGary made his season debut at Iowa State on Sunday after missing two games with a lower back injury.

McGary, a preseason first-team All-American, was held out of easy wins over UMass-Lowell and South Carolina State. But the sophomore entered the game with 16:17 left in the first half for the seventh-ranked Wolverines (2-0).

McGary averaged 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds a game last season and helped lead Michigan to the national title game.

Iowa State also got a key player back for Sunday’s game in Melvin Ejim, a senior forward who missed a pair of games with a hyperextended knee.
