LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Jaye Crockett scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Texas Tech to an 80-71 win over Texas Southern on Monday night in the opening round of the Progressive Legends Classic.

Dusty Hannahs was the itch that wouldn’t go away for the Tigers, coming off the bench and scoring 17 of his 19 points for the Red Raiders in the second half — all at crucial moments.

Robert Turner added 15 points, and Jordan Tolbert added 11 points and five boards for Texas Tech.

Jose Rodriguez led Texas Southern with 29 points and 10 rebounds and Ray Penn added 15 points — 13 in the second half — before fouling out late.

Texas Tech (3-1) kept a narrow lead for most of the game, but allowed TSU (2-3) to regain a pair of one-point leads early in the second half before pulling away in the final minutes.
