MUNICH (AP) — The German ski federation says Susanne Riesch has undergone surgery to remove a bone spur from her left knee and is expected to return in mid-December.

The younger sister of Olympic champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch was injured last week in training but raced in Saturday’s slalom in Levi, Finland.

It was her first race in more than two years. Riesch broke her leg and tore ligaments in her left knee in a crash in downhill training in September 2011.

The surgery was conducted Monday and the ski federation expects a three-week break from training, with the Courchevel race in France on Dec. 17 as the target date for her return.
