Evansville beats Valparaiso 100-92

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — D.J. Balentine made six 3-pointers and scored 32 points as Evansville held on to beat Valparaiso 100-92 on Wednesday night.

Evansville (4-0) led by 25 at halftime and built a 65-38 lead with 16 minutes to play. But Valparaiso then went on a 16-2 run and ultimately cut Evansville’s lead to 91-85 with 1:13 remaining.

Balentine has now scored at least 29 points in four straight games and the Aces have shot over 50 percent in each contest. He was 8 of 14, including 6 of 8 3-pointers, and made all 10 of his free-throw attempts.

Valparaiso (2-3), the defending Horizon League champion, was paced by Alec Peters with 30 points, who was 7 for 11 from 3-point range. LaVonte Dority added 17 for the Crusaders.
