PORTLAND — A tentative contract for Portland police would protect officers who take sports supplements tainted with steroids.

Under current policy, officers who test positive for banned drugs face suspension or having their powers restricted.

The Oregonian reports officers would not face repercussions for steroids under the tentative four-year contract.

Union ratification ballots will be counted next Tuesday and the city council also would have to give its approval.
