COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Carol Capitani will take over as head coach of the U.S. women’s team for the Duel in the Pool meet next month.

USA Swimming announced Thursday that Capitani is taking the place of Jack Bauerle, who is scheduled for knee-replacement surgery. The longtime University of Georgia coach will be unable to attend the two-day event in Scotland matching all-star teams from the U.S. and Europe.

Capitani is in her second season as the head women’s coach at the University of Texas. She will lead an American team featuring Olympic gold medalists Katie Ledecky and Jessica Hardy during the Dec. 20-21 meet in Glasgow, site of next year’s Commonwealth Games.

The U.S. is undefeated in the 5-year-old event that includes some of Europe’s top swimmers.
