USC Upstate wins 83-74 over Niagara

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Torrey Craig had 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists as USC Upstate held on for an 83-74 victory over Niagara Thursday night in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Kent State University.

Upstate (2-2) led 47-28 at halftime and held a 26-point second-half lead, but survived a late rally from Niagara, which closed the gap to 71-66 with 3:20 to go. The Spartans led 79-74 with 25.7 seconds left before scoring the final four points to seal the victory in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Ty Greene had 15 points and Jodd Maxey added 13 rebounds for Upstate.

Antoine Mason led Niagara (1-2) with 31 points. He entered the contest averaging 29.5 points per game which was fourth in the nation. Marvin Jordan added 11 points for the Purple Eagles and became the 44th member of Niagara’s 1,000-point club.
