Stony Brook beats Florida Atlantic 67-61

DETROIT (AP) — Jamel Warney scored 23 points and grabbed 19 rebounds and Stonybrook held off Florida Atlantic down the stretch to win 67-61 Saturday.

Florida Atlantic (1-5) tied the game at 40 with 14:30 left in the second period on free throws by D’Andre Johnson, but Warner put Stony Brook (4-2) ahead on a jumper and the Seawolves kept the Owls at arm’s length down the stretch with four free throws by Carson Puriefoy and one by Dave Coley.

Stonybrook shot 39.3 percent from the field on 22-of-56 shooting. Eric Mcallister scored 12 points for the Seawolves and Coley added 10.

Jackson Trapp led the Owls with 20 points, including five 3-pointers, and Pablo Bertone added 11.

Stony Brook reeled off a 20-12 run to open the game but Florida Atlantic cut their advantage to 32-31 at halftime on 3-pointers by Johnson and Bertone. The Owls made 10 of 36 3-point attempts.
