Towson overpowers UM-Baltimore County 75-60

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Marcus Damas scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Towson defeated University of Maryland-Baltimore County 75-60.

Damas went 7-of-11 shooting and netted four 3-pointers while Jerome Benimon poured-in 19 points and Rafael Guthrie picked-up 14 for the Tigers.

Towson (4-2) led 31-28 at the half and UMBC (2-5) stayed close until the Tigers produced a 13-4 run and led 61-46 with 5 minutes to play. That run started when Damas was fouled shooting a 3-pointer and he made all three attempts from the line. UMBC shot poorly from the field (29 percent) and were out-rebounded by the Tigers 45-32. The Retrievers allowed Towson 42 free throw attempts giving up 28 points from the penalty line. Towson blocked 11 of the Retrievers basket attempts.

Chase Plummer led UMBC with 17 points and Devarick Houston was the only other Retriever in double figures with 11 points.
