LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas offensive line coach Tim Grunhard is stepping down at the end of the season and coach Charlie Weis says he already has hired a replacement.

Word of Grunhard’s decision leaked while the Jayhawks were preparing for their season finale Saturday against Kansas State, forcing Weis to confirm it in a brief statement Wednesday.

Grunhard was in his second season on Weis’ staff. He said in a statement that he wants to spend more time with his family. He has four children who all will be in high school.

The Jayhawks have struggled on offense this season, and a constantly shuffling offensive line has had trouble creating time for quarterbacks Jake Heaps and Montell Cozart.

Weis said he would announce Grunhard’s replacement when that coach becomes available.
