YAKIMA — Yakima fruit is helping people on television stay healthy: Apples, pears and cherries from Yakima-based Sage Fruit Co. were featured earlier this month on an episode of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.”

The Nov. 12 show taught participants and viewers about cooking nutritious meals with fresh fruits and vegetables, and some of that produce came from Sage Fruit, which has been supplying the show since April 2012 as one of the Farm Fresh partners of “The Biggest Loser,” according to a company news release.

Contestants on the show competed in a healthful meal cook-off to impress judges including the executive director of first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative.

Sage Fruit now offers “Biggest Loser”-branded packaging and marketing materials with messages on how to include more fresh fruits and vegetables in daily meals.

“The on-air challenge was a perfect way to show consumers how to make healthy meals and connect the dots between our fresh foods in the store and the ‘Biggest Loser’ brand,” Sage Fruit’s social media director Kaci Komstadius said in the release.
