SPOKANE — A Spokane County animal welfare agency says one of more than 60 horses seized earlier this month from an area ranch has died.

The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service says the 5-month-old foal was an orphan. The emaciated foal was found Nov. 15 at Janice Hickerson’s ranch.

The Spokesman-Review reports there is a warrant for Hickerson’s arrest on charges of animal cruelty and confinement in an unsafe manner.

The welfare agency says more than 25 horses were taken from the same ranch in July.
