Kent State beats Kennesaw State 68-51

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Mark Henniger scored 16 points Sunday afternoon and Kent State held off Kennesaw State 68-51 by scoring nearly half their points from the free-throw line.

Derek Jackson scored 14 points for Kent State (8-1) and the Golden Flashes shot 38.6 percent from the field compared with 31 percent for Kennesaw State (3-7). Henniger went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Bernard Morena and Delbert Love each scored 16 points for the Owls, who committed 27 personal fouls that Kent State converted into 31 points.

The lead changed hands 10 times in the first half. Khaliq Spicer tied it at 25 on two free throws at 2:48, then Kellon Thomas made a layup with 7 seconds to go to give the Golden Flashes a 27-25 advantage at halftime.

A 14-2 second-half run helped lift Kent State to a 51-34 lead at 9:27. Ten of their final 14 points were free throws.
