NEWPORT — An olive ridley sea turtle that was found in distress Monday on an Oregon beach died Wednesday at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.

The aquarium says an examination showed the turtle suffered internal injuries while tumbling through the surf because it was too cold to swim. An endangered species, olive ridley sea turtles are typically found in tropical waters.

The Fish and Wildlife Service staffers who brought the turtle to the aquarium called her “Furlough.”
