KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals hired Dale Sveum to handle infield instruction and other coaching duties, three days after he was fired as manager of the Chicago Cubs.

The Royals also announced Thursday that the contracts of third base coach Eddie Rodriguez and bench coach Chino Cadahia were not renewed. Cadahia had been on personal leave to attend to a family matter late in the season, and will be offered another opportunity within the organization.

Sveum is expected to take over one of the in-game responsibilities handled by Rodriguez or Cadahia. The Royals will announce that decision at a later date.

Sveum spent six years on the coaching staff in Milwaukee, including three with Royals manager Ned Yost, before taking over the Cubs. He went 65-93 this season, leaving his career record 126-194 as a major league manager.
