SEATTLE — A woman was found shot to death early Friday morning on the popular Burke-Gilman Trail in North Seattle.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman Saturday as Jowanna Gooden, 26, and said she died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers were called to a stretch of trail in the 2400 block of North Northlake Way, in the Wallingford neighborhood, around 4:30 a.m. after a passerby called 911 to report finding the body, police said.

Terry Lad, who lives near the shooting scene, told KING 5 that he was walking his dog around midnight when he heard a single gunshot.

Seattle police spokesman Mark Jamieson said investigators are hoping for witness tips. No arrests have been made, and Jamieson said he’s not sure if they’re searching for one or more suspects.

Jamieson said investigators “do not believe the woman was randomly targeted.” He did not elaborate.
