Camas-Washougal Community Chest launches fund drive

The Columbian
Published:

The Camas-Washougal Community Chest launched its 2014 fundraising drive on Oct. 1, with a goal of raising $78,000. The money is used for grants to local nonprofit organizations that run youth programs or otherwise serve Camas and Washougal residents in need. The Community Chest has been around since 1946.

The 2013 campaign brought in $83,795, which resulted in 18 grants. Those include support for the Interfaith Treasure House and the East County Family Resource Center, tree plantings and invasive plant removal in the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge, and scholarships for students studying abroad. Other grants paid for new chairs for Meals on Wheels at the Washougal Community Center, building materials for remodeling at the Community Pregnancy Clinic and support for swimming lessons at the Camas swimming pool.

To reach its $78,000 goal for 2014, the CWCC is seeking donations from individuals and businesses. More information can be found on the CWCC’s website at: www.CamasWashougalCommunityChest.org.
