Bomb technicians disposed of two suspicious devices found Saturday morning by the side of Northeast Powell Road in Hockinson.
A deputy from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene, just south of the Northeast 139th Street intersection, after 9:22 a.m. He discovered a pair of cylindrical tubes wrapped in duct tape with what appeared to be green wires coming out of them.
The deputy called the Portland Metro Explosives Disposal Unit to dispose of the devices. It’s unclear whether they were actually explosive, according to the sheriff’s office.
Nobody was at risk during the incident. There are homes in the vicinity, said Sgt. Jim Eastman of the sheriff’s office, “but it’s mostly a rural area.”
In June, bomb technicians detonated a pipe bomb found in Crown Continental Park, located in Hazel Dell. In that case, the pipe was filled with bird shot and black powder, but not enough to explode.
