S. Dakota St rolls past W. Illinois, 38-14

MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Austin Sumner passed for three touchdowns and Zach Zenner rushed for two more as South Dakota State rolled past Western Illinois, 38-14 in a Missouri Valley Conference battle Saturday.

Sumner threw two touchdown passes less than three minutes apart in the first quarter to spark the Jackrabbits (4-3, 1-2 MVC) to a 17-0 first quarter lead.

Zenner put the game away in the second half, sweeping 80 yards for a touchdown, then powering in from the 1 to cap the scoring barely three minutes later.

Sumner was 21 of 35 for 265 yards to go with his three touchdowns, but he also threw a pair of interceptions. Zenner finished with 133 yards on 21 carries. Jason Schneider caught seven passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.

J.C. Baker carried 27 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Leathernecks (3-4, 1-2 MVC).
