Local residents can find costume contests, games, crafts and more

Fall is in the air, and with that comes Halloween — the spookiest of holidays. Special events and activities are happening throughout the month, most geared toward kids, but at least one has some adult fun in mind.

Family Halloween Night

A donation of two cans of non-perishable food items will get local residents into the Family Halloween Night event, which will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Liberty Middle School, 1612 N.E. Garfield St. All donations will go to the Inter-Faith Treasure House food bank, which serves struggling families in Camas and Washougal.

The event, organized by Camas Parks and Recreation, will be held from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. The costume contest is from 8:15 to 9 p.m. Activities are designed for children ages 2 to 12. There will be carnival games and prizes, inflatable games and crafts. All children attending must be accompanied by an adult. No costume weapons are allowed.

Cape Horn-Skye Harvest Carnival

The Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School’s annual Harvest Carnival will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., at 9731 Washougal River Road, in Washougal.

There will be carnival games, a haunted house, cupcake and cake walk, mini pumpkin painting, and other events, as well as a raffle for a $500 Visa gift card and silent auction of themed baskets. Food will be available for purchase. The event is a fundraiser for the school’s booster club.

Boo Bash

Hundreds of trick-or-treaters dressed up in costume will make their way through downtown Camas as businesses dole out candy and other goodies from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. For more information, visit www.downtowncamas.com.

Skamania County Pumpkin Patch Festival

The whole family is invited to get into the Halloween spirit at the eighth-annual pumpkin patch event on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be a traditional trolley ride, hay bale maze and pumpkin bowling, games, creative crafts, seasonal stories and music, and showings of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

The festivities take place at the stock barn on the Skamania County Fairgrounds, 650 S.W. Rock Creek Drive. Costumes are encouraged. Activities are suitable for all ages, but tailored for children 2 to 9. Admission is $5 per child. Andrew’s Pizza in Stevenson will offer a coupon for $3 off a family size pizza, or $2 off other sizes.

First Christian Church Harvest Party

The free party will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at 404 N.E. Sixth Ave. A dinner of chili, soup, bread and dessert will be served beginning at 6 p.m. Activities for kids including games, pumpkin bowling, bobbing for apples, cookie decorating, as well as a cake walk and pumpkin pie eating contest will begin at 7 p.m. Costumes are encouraged. Stevenson Halloween Costume Party

The party for ages 21 and older will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at the exhibit hall at the Skamania County Fairgrounds, 650 S.W. Rock Creek Drive.

There will be a DJ playing music from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Attendees will also have access to a cash bar and complimentary snacks. Prizes will be awarded to the best costumes in several categories.

Admission is $15 per person or $25 per couple. The event is sponsored by the Stevenson Business Association and Skamania County General Services.

Warehouse Church Harvest Carnival

Warehouse Church, located at the former Washougal Grange building, is hosting a free harvest carnival Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at 621 Washougal River Road.

The event includes two floors of free carnival games, face painting, a costume contest, studio pictures and candy. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes, but nothing too scary or gory. Volunteers from Warehouse Church and Bethel Community Church will be working together to put on the family friendly event.

Trunk and Treat

Zion Lutheran Church in Camas will host a “Trunk and Treat” event for youngsters on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

During this time, kids can stop by the church parking lot, 824 N.E. Fourth Ave., where members will share candy and other goodies from their decorated car trunks.
