Bellingham landlord to evict tenants connected to melee

BELLINGHAM — The landlord for a Bellingham apartment complex where a large party last weekend turned into a riot has given the names of tenants to investigators.

Hammer Properties owner Mike Hays also told The Bellingham Herald he’ll evict tenants who planned the block party. And, he’ll tack on a $500 fine for violating the lease at the Jersey Street apartments.

Hays says many residents are students at Western Washington University and their parents are co-signers. If evicted, they’ll have to keep paying rent until a new tenant moves in.

Officers broke up a Saturday night party in the courtyard of the apartments. But many partiers moved to a nearby park where the crowd grew and clashed with police.
