Clark men’s soccer clinches division title

The Clark College men’s soccer team wrapped up its next goal Wednesday with room to spare.

One game after securing a playoff berth, the Penguins clinched the NWAACC South with a 1-0 home win over Chemeketa.

The Penguins (8-1-0) lead the division by 14 points with four regular season matches to play.

Bernardino Ayala-Jimenez scored the deciding goal in the 53rd minute. It was his 14th of the season, which is tied for second in the league.

Johnathan Morales had six saves to earn the shutout. The Penguins have allowed four goals in league play.

The NWAACC Soccer Championships take place Nov. 16-17 at Starfire Complex in Renton.

Clark women beat Chemeketa

The Clark women’s soccer team scored a 2-1 home win over Chemeketa on Wednesday.

Sophomore Megan Beal put the Penguins ahead in the 6th minute, but Chemeketa fired back in the 11th minute.

Jade Reid broke the tie in the 79th minute with an assist from Cristal Ruvalcaba.

With a 6-4-1 league record, the Penguins are third in the NWAACC South and are poised to earn a playoff berth for the third consecutive year.
