ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The federal judge overseeing the complicated court fight over publicity payouts between the NFL and retired players has taken the case under advisement before deciding whether to give final approval to the $50 million settlement.

U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson heard arguments Thursday and gave no timetable for his decision.

The settlement was reached in March between the league and the players. Magnuson gave preliminary approval in April. But more than 2,000 players chose to opt out of the class action, and another 19 filed objections to the settlement. The lawsuit was originally filed in 2009.

The majority group pushing for approval comprises more than 25,000 players, well over 90 percent of those covered.
