JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Carson-Newman coach Ken Sparks earned his 314th victory Saturday to move into a tie for seventh place on the career list, leading the Eagles to a 45-17 win over Tusculum.

Sparks, who was coaching his 400th game, is 314-84-2. Amos Alonzo Stagg and Roy Kidd also had 314 coaching victories.

The record is held by John Gagliardi, the former coach at Division III St. John’s of Minnesota. Gagliardi retired last November with a 489-138-11 record.

Tusculum’s Bo Cordell went 27 of 45 for 360 yards with two touchdowns and one interception to give him 14,700 career yards passing. Cordell is 33 yards shy of Zach Amedro’s Division II record for career yards passing.

Amedro threw for 14,733 yards for West Liberty from 2007-10.
