We complain about our House of Representatives, but we forget how they got there. We voted them in, so we need to vote them out. A minority in the House of Representatives have taken the government hostage by attaching the health care law to keeping the government open. Ironically, these very people are the ones who have instilled fear in Americans about a government takeover. They have voted to cut $39 billion in food aid, hurting 72 percent who are the working poor with children.
U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher, R-Tenn., illogically quotes Scripture: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” Fincher, also a farmer, collected nearly $3.5 million in subsidies from 1999 to 2012. Not showing compassion or caring for the least of these is non-biblical.
Let’s take a look at the Pentagon budget for cuts, waste and subsidies. Social unrest affects all of us. Have we not seen this in other countries? The responsibility of our legislators is to protect “the common good.” Representatives, check out the books of Amos, Jeremiah, Kings and Matthew to see what God says about your responsibility. We must speak out for those who have no voice.
