Vancouver Heights — When Ron Trujillo takes you to your medical appointment or shopping run, he’ll make a point of learning your name and some things about you — so the next time he drives you, you’re already old friends.

Trujillo, who drives paratransit for Golden Chariot Specialty Transport, was recently named the 2013 Paratransit and Contracting Driver of the Year by the Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit Association.

“The level of care and passion he provides to each and every passenger on a daily basis is something to emulate,” said TLPA CEO Alfred LaGasse.

Trujillo spent years as a forklift driver before going to work for Golden Chariot in 2010. He said he enjoys “meeting new people who have challenges in their lives and making … them feel comfortable and safe.”

Trujillo will accept his award on Oct. 29 at the TLPA’s annual convention in Boston.
