MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Marlins’ ballpark will host a team from the American Athletic Conference in the annual Miami Beach Bowl beginning in 2014.
The opponent will most likely come from the Mid-American, the Sun Belt or Conference USA.
Marlins Park is located on the site of the old Orange Bowl. It opened last year and seats 36,000 for baseball. The ballpark was designed to attract football and soccer events.
Minor bowls with tie-ins to the AAC will also begin next year at Florida Atlantic University’s stadium in Boca Raton, Fla., and in Nassau, Bahamas.
Other major league ballparks that host bowls games include the homes of the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Tampa Bay Rays.
