John Force tops Funny Car qualifying in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Points leader John Force topped Funny Car qualifying Saturday in the NHRA Toyota Nationals with a track-record run at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The 64-year-old Force, the record 15-time series champion coming off victories in the last two events, broke the track time record with a run of 4.011 seconds at 317.79 mph in his Ford Mustang.

Shawn Langdon led the Top Fuel field, Mike Edwards was fastest in Pro Stock, and Hector Arana topped the Pro Stock Motorcycle order in the fifth of six events in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Series leader Langdon had a 3.778 at 324.28. He has six victories this year.

Edwards finished in 6.632 at 208.23 in a Chevrolet Camaro, and Arana had a 6.930 at 192.44.
