CINCINNATI (AP) — Bengals middle linebacker Rey Maualuga hurt his left knee and was taken off the field on a cart during the second quarter of a game against the New York Jets on Sunday.

Maualuga got his left leg twisted beneath him in a pile-up while trying to make a tackle with 4:01 left in the first half. The Bengals led 21-3. He got a cheer from the fans and waved as he was taken off on a cart.

Vontaze Burfict can move from his outside linebacker spot into the middle.

Maualuga hasn’t missed a game since 2011, when he sat out three with a sprained ankle.
