ZURICH (AP) — Soccer leaders from Kosovo and Serbia have met at FIFA, with the independent former Serbian province seeking recognition for its men’s national team.
FIFA says President Sepp Blatter hosted talks with delegations led by Kosovo soccer federation President Fadil Vokrri and Serbian counterpart Tomislav Karadzic.
FIFA says the parties agreed to meet again next month before a Dec. 4-5 FIFA executive committee meeting in Brazil.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. It is not a FIFA member though its youth, amateur, women’s and club teams can play international exhibition games.
In May 2012, Blatter said his board gave clearance for all of Kosovo’s teams but the move was later stalled by European soccer’s ruling body. UEFA President Michel Platini said then the subject was “very political.”
