NEW YORK (AP) — The bad news for Fox is that the World Series is drawing relatively modest interest among the television viewing public. The good news is the Fall Classic is still going, with a sixth and potentially seventh game on the horizon.
Nielsen Co. says the series between Boston and St. Louis is averaging just over 14 million viewers through four games. Only last year’s series and the 2008 matchup between Philadelphia and Tampa Bay had a smaller audience.
Generally speaking, the longer a Series goes, the bigger the audience. In 2011, the last time the Series reached seven games, the contest drew more than 25 million viewers.
Four series games last week helped Fox beat all its rivals in the prime-time ratings.
