TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State just missed a berth in the NCAA tournament last season.

With point guard Jahii Carson back for one more season and talented players around him, the Sun Devils are expecting to get there for the first time since 2009 this season.

Carson led Arizona State in scoring and assists during Arizona State’s 22-win season in 2012-13. He bypassed the NBA for one more season in the desert and a chance at a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

The Sun Devils should have a decent shot at it with Carson at the point and an inexperienced but talented supporting cast.

Arizona State returns center Jordan Bachynski and forward Jonathan Gilling, and also added several transfers, including Jermaine Marshall, Penn State’s second-leading scorer last season.
