Murray, Carr among finalists for academic Heisman

DALLAS (AP) — Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr and Michigan State linebacker Max Bullough are among 16 finalists for the William Campbell Trophy, which honors college football’s top scholar-athlete.

The finalists receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.

The other finalists are:

Trevor Adams of Northwest Missouri State; John Arena of John Hopkins; Gabe Ikard of Oklahoma; Spencer Long of Nebraska; Niccolo Mastromatteo of Coastal Carolina; Jeff Matthews of Cornell; James Morris of Iowa; Perry Simmons of Duke; Eric Soza of Texas-San Antonio; John Urschel of Penn State; Dustin Vaughan of West Texas A&M; Tony Washington of Appalachian State; and Eric Westerberg of Augustana, Ill.

The Campbell Trophy will be awarded Dec. 10 by the National Football Foundation. The winner receives an additional $7,000 scholarship.
