Bailey’s status for opener still up in the air

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey didn’t practice Monday and said his status for Thursday night’s opener against Baltimore was “still up in the air.”

Bailey has been out since spraining his left foot Aug. 17 in a preseason game at Seattle.

Entering his 15th NFL season, Bailey said the Broncos are “kind of leaving it up to me as far as going out there and make sure that I’m ready and I’m confident about it.”

He said some days it hurts backpedaling, other days when going side to side or running straight ahead.

Although he’s confident he can step in and play Thursday after such a long layoff, Bailey also recognizes that getting another 10 days before Denver’s next game, against the New York Giants, might be the prudent course.
