Westbrook takes Grand-Am pole at Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) — Defending race winner Richard Westbrook took the pole Saturday for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Westbrook turned a lap in 1 minute, 21.557 seconds — averaging 98.787 mph — around the 2.238-mile circuit in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP. Westbrook and co-driver Ricky Taylor head into the race looking for their first victory of the season. Antonio Garcia teamed with Westbrook for the victory last year.

John Edwards earned his third GT class pole of the season in the No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro GT.R. In the GX class, 17-year-old Tristan Nunez claimed his first career pole position in the No. 00 MazdaSpeed/SpeedSource Mazda 6.
